Building an Effective Alerts and Notices System

With a recent surge in remote working and online learning around the globe. Online resources and websites are quickly becoming the most important communications platform for many organizations and businesses.

It is important to understand that in this day and age, a large proportion of the population instinctively looks toward the internet for information or answers to questions. Thus, in times like these, having an up-to-date website is absolutely vital to staying connected with your clients; and depending on the nature of your site, perhaps even in delivering life-affecting information that concerns everyone in the general population.

Many websites are now starting to implement Alert and Notice systems onto their pages to allow for easy, timely updates. Some are better done the others. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re thinking of implementing a similar system onto your website:

  1. Alerts should always be shown in a contrasting manner so that a user is able to differentiate it from the rest of the text easily. This helps bring the website viewer’s attention to important information such as timely notices.
  2. Alerts should do something. It is better for an alert to link to even just a short news post about the topic than to have a static line of text.
  3. Additional features that can be explored include programming alerts to be timed events so that they automatically expire/disappear after a certain period of time. This is especially useful for times of uncertainty like these where health guidelines and news are updated almost every other day.
  4. Last but not least, make sure that your alerts are concise, easy to understand, and most importantly, gets the point across.

Stay safe everyone!
