Aaniin boozhoo. Hello. My name is Julie. I have a mix of Irish settler and Indigenous heritage. My ancestry stems from the Chippewa, Anishinaabe, and the Georgian Bay Metis Nation Ontario Historic Community from the family line of Joseph Craddock (Pamwewedung). Much of the work that I do revolves around facilitating gatherings, research, and providing community and academic support to Indigenous Students and Families in the Durham Region Area of Ontario.
I have just completed my Master of Education at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. I am trained in many facets of Indigenous Education, including protocols, OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession of First Nations Data Governance. I participate in and quite often plan Indigenous Community Engagement events where I plan logistics, organizing, acquiring of necessary materials and foods, all while upholding Inherent Indigenous Rights to respect, dignity, love, and special treatment as original peoples of the Land.
I have worked with KIMBO in the past as a consultant because of my history of creative arts and deeper knowledge of Indigenous Pedagogy and ways of being, knowing and doing. Being creative, paired with being humble, considerate, and a true listener to the people that I work with is the wholistic approach that I take. This approach fosters my Anishinaabe value system that considers the whole self (emotional, mental, physical and spiritual).
