The District of Ucluelet provides essential communication to its residents through its website. The Challenge

The District of Ucluelet’s original website launched in 2013. While the technological landscape has evolved since then, the Ucluelet website did not; their website was outdated, inflexible, and difficult to manage internally. Content updates were time-consuming, which limited the team’s ability to keep the site fresh and inform the community. The design lacked visual appeal and failed to reflect the unique spirit of Ucluelet. On the technical side, the rigid structure made it nearly impossible to scale or adapt the site for future needs. With rising expectations for mobile usability and accessibility, the site needed a complete overhaul to serve both internal teams and the wider community.

The Strategy

KIMBO built Ucluelet’s website around the UX of the staff and website visitors. We focused on increasing internal efficiency, accessibility features, and futureproofing. We rebuilt the site using WordPress for long-term flexibility and ease of maintenance. We developed a custom, component-based content system using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), allowing staff to create and manage website pages easily. The site was designed with minimal reliance on plugins, keeping it fast, secure, and stable. Visually, the new website combines a clean, modern, and community-focused design while offering a seamless experience across all devices. Behind the scenes, an intuitive admin interface ensures the district can manage and grow the site in-house, without outside support.
