2016 Cystic Fibrosis Gala

65 Roses Gala

This was the third consecutive year we have worked with the Vancouver and Lower Mainland Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, to develop the branding, creative strategy and event design for their signature event, the 65 Roses Gala. The 65 Roses Gala is British Columbia’s largest fundraising event for cystic fibrosis research, and we are happy to lend a hand in supporting this great cause. It was a great experience this year, as the whole KIMBO Design team attended the event, enjoying a great meal, wonderful entertainment, and good company. Over $385,000 was raised on the evening, all of which went towards researching a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

The Challenge

This year’s gala was a 1920’s/Great Gatsby-esque theme, with the tagline “Speakeasy, Breathe Easy.” The look that we were trying to achieve was one that was both modernized and paid homage to the theme’s era. Since this year was the first themed gala, our design and branding work was one element of the overall theme, which also included the decor, interior design, and guests. A common thread between all of our work with Cystic Fibrosis Canada is the rose motif. This year’s logo incorporated a rose as the “O” in “65 Roses.” Our rose had a fractured, geometric look, which we feel did an excellent job of bridging the gap between modern and vintage.

We were so fortunate to work with KIMBO Design on the design and branding of the 65 Roses Gala event collateral. Their attention to detail, passion, and creativity was present from our initial meeting. They went the extra mile at every opportunity and really understood our vision which truly helped bring our event to life and exceeded our expectations. The team is professional and great to work with. We have partnered with KIMBO Design in the past to help with the design and branding of our event and will continue to do so in the future.

The Strategy

One of the most difficult parts of branding an entire event is ensuring that all of the elements are coordinated and consistent. We did this by creating a comprehensive brand style guide, which we used to check every piece so that there was harmony among the entire collection of brand assets. For the 65 Roses Gala, we designed a huge assortment of items for this project, including, but not limited to, invitations, signage, table cards, presentations, programs, and silent auction collateral. By establishing a simple and elegant brand, along with a widespread style guide, we were able to tie all of the brand elements together under a single visual identity.

Results

This year’s gala was another rousing success, both for our design work and the evening itself. Our designs were showcased all throughout the gala, which was great visibility for KIMBO, and the designs helped create the vintage atmosphere intended. Thanks to the success of yet another 65 Roses Gala, we hope that this event continues to be an institution on the KIMBO Design calendar, as we love to support such an important cause, and always have a great time attending.

Let's create something incredible together!
